Here’s
My STory
12 years ago I was sitting in a jail cell in Salem, Massachusetts
I had just been arrested for possession of narcotics, a fitting situation for someone who had been struggling with alcohol and drugs, relationships, belief, and direction. While laying on the concrete bench, all I could ask myself was, “How did I get here?!”.
I was 25 years old, and a shell of who I once was. At one point, I had been a captain of any high-school team I’ve ever been on, a state-champion, high-school all-American, division-1 athlete, 4-year captain of a division-1 college team, member of the national honors society, graduated Cum Laude, and worked for a congressman.
Yet, sitting in that cell, I was none of that. Worse, I embodied none of the values I admired. I couldn’t help but think, “I wasn’t meant for this, this isn’t how this was supposed to go”.
While I didn’t know how I was going to change, I made a promise to myself that I would
It has been said that we hit bottom the moment we realize what we are about to lose next is something we are not willing to give up. For me, I knew deep down in my core that I wasn’t willing to give up on the person I knew I was meant to become.
For the next twelve years, one step at a time, I committed to chasing that best version of myself.
How it’s going
Today, I work with countless teens and young adults in an effort to empower them to find their why, develop belief, and resiliency. Who I am now is a far cry from who I was on June 28th of 2012. Currently, I possess a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Masters in Psychology, National Strength & Conditioning Certifications, teach classes, run substance-use groups, and coach student-athletes. I was named the 2023 Cushing Academy Reitman Teacher of the Year, the 2023 US Lacrosse Northern New England Coach of the Year, and the 2024 Northern New England Lacrosse League ‘Man of the Year’.
Paying it forward
Each day, I am stepping into the person I was meant to be. It is surreal, and beautiful. My intent is to pass along what I’ve learned, so that others can experience the benefits of chasing their best self.
